Deflecting Dies
Flat dies operating under high pressure often experience distortion of the die body. This changes the geometry of the internal flow channels of the die which can significantly affect the flow distribution exiting the die and therefore die performance. (The deflection of the die body observed at the die lips is commonly called "clam shelling".) Satisfactory designs of such dies require an accurate prediction of the deflection of the die body as well as the flow in the internal channels of the die. Here a 3-D deflection analysis body is coupled to a 3-D flow analysis to analyze deflecting dies.
